Okay – I need to start by saying that this fabric is incredible, and I think that anything I could make in this would be an absolute hit. It feels high end, incredibly soft, and has the best hand and drape. I made my husband a tee out of this fabric back in autumn, and I added one little yard of this colorway in for myself because I had a feeling I was going to fall in love with it. I did, and then I couldn’t bring myself to cut and sew it because I was afraid I’d mess it up. Now that I’ve finally sewn it (and written this paragraph of a love letter to this fabric), I’m convinced I need all of the colorways…
The most important thing I can tell you about the Everyday Tee pattern right now is that today, it is ONE DOLLAR. That’s right, it is Wacky Wednesday again which means you can get your hands on this great tee for less than you’ll pay for a tube of chapstick. Also, I honestly just wrote and deleted the description of this as an everyday tee, in the sense that it is perfect for everyday no matter what, and then realized that it is the name of the pattern. So obviously, it is aptly named.
I was so excited to find this pattern, because the shape very closely mimics one of my favorite tees that I wear on a weekly rotation. My original favorite tee has Mick Jagger’s mugshot on it, so admittedly my newly sewn one can’t quite compete with that standard, but the shape is so near! For this version, I chose to do the more fitted option. I think it fits so well, and it is so comfortable and flattering. It’s an elevated basic – I know that realistically, I might as well be wearing pajamas, but I think the real world would think I look pretty well put together!
I used to think it was ridiculous to add center back seams to tops, especially tees. Often, I would omit them completely, subtract the seam allowances, and simply cut on the fold. I thought that I was saving time and not altering the shape of the garment, but turns out, I was wrong! A nice center back seam can really help accentuate the shape of your back and add some nice contours to the silhouette of an otherwise basic top. I did NOT skip the center back seam on this tee! 🙂
Despite the ever-so-difficult center back seam (I’m totally kidding), this pattern is super easy to whip up. Center, shoulder, and back seams all come together easily, with no need for any sleeve or additional attachments. Hemming the sleeves proved to be no issue, but the actual garment hem was a bit trickier – trying to achieve that perfect side curve requires some patience and attention to detail. Mine could be a little more precise, but overall I am happy with how it looks!
I used a twin needle, threaded with a light, rosy pink thread, to give the garment a bit of a washed, vintage vibe. The brushed nature of the fabric already lends itself well to a worn in look, and the lighter thread accents just carried that same look out a little further.
This tee is a great stand alone top, but thanks to the curved hem, it also looks fun underneath sweaters and other tops. I wore it both ways while we were travelling (mostly underneath though – it was chilly!) and thought it was so cute. I’m envisioning this with jeans, my white converse, a fitted sweater, and a baseball cap for a cute weekend look!
Isn’t the setting for these photos absolutely beautiful? These photos were taken in my sister-in-law’s family olive orchards. One of my favorite things about travelling to Italy and Spain has been the abundance of olive trees. They have the most beautiful shade of slightly grey sage green, and it makes for the most beautiful scenery as you drive through the country or ride the train. During this trip, we were so lucky to be able to visit this private orchard, which has been in my sister-in-law’s family for generations. There is a beautiful home on the property that was built over 200 years ago, and spending the afternoon here felt a little like being in a fairytale. The colors were beautiful, and I think I could’ve been happy just walking among the trees all day long!
