One of my goals for 2021 has been to say yes to a few less collaboration projects – while I love them SO much, I often feel like I’m letting people down if I don’t complete my projects quickly enough, and then I feel stressed out about something that is normally my favorite mechanism for relaxation! That being said, I’m simply trying to be more mindful about the projects I do take on overall… Will it fill a gap in my wardrobe? Can I use it to make something I already wanted / planned to make? Is it different from what I already have on hand? Is the company one I’m excited to support? And lastly… Is it so extra special that I just can’t pass it up? This project, though, was a combination of 2 things that I was VERY excited to add to my list of collaborations this year!

I’ve really been on a roll with knits lately, but when I saw this beautiful flannel I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to make something a little bit out of the norm! I’ve always loved flannel, but have never been drawn to wearing button-up tops, so I’ve never been quite sure what to sew with flannel! I have used flannel with a couple of other patterns since I first sewed the Camden Skirt, but I felt like this was simply a perfect pairing. I pulled out my favorite pattern for flannel and got to work!
Have you ever fallen so in love with a fabric or pattern that you just think of it constantly? That was me with this pencil skirt for about a year. I saw this fabric on Minerva back in January 2018, and couldn’t stop thinking about it ever since. Once I finally got my hands on some, I struggled!!
It took me a year to finally make this vision a reality… And another year to post it!! I’d been eyeing cute button up skirts since autumn of 2018, and actually purchased this pattern back in November 2018 after seeing one of my favorite fellow sewists post her version on Instagram! I’d been holding onto it, just waiting for the right fabric to come along, when I finally found the perfect match last November!
