Mama / Mini Matching Avocados

August 4, 2019

It’s August, which means it is my BIRTHDAY month! I am a self-proclaimed “Birthday Brat,” and I’ve claimed the month of August as my own for basically my entire life. I take the day (or sometimes the week!) off from work each year, and thoroughly enjoy reminding my husband all month that “…you know, it IS my birthday month, after all!” I don’t have any big plans this year, aside from a week off of work to spend time with my family and sewing machine, but I DO have a lot of content planned to share with you guys this month!

To kick off my birth-month posts, I’m starting off with another Mama / Mini set – you guys know I can’t resist matching with my girl! Avocado is one of my favorite foods, I eat one almost every day for breakfast and could happily work it in to each of my meals and never get tired. When I found this fun fabric at So Sew English, I knew we needed matching outfits!

I was afraid the pink might be a little bit little girl-ish for me (and that a matching light pink avocado set might be a littttttle too similar to our matching light coral lemon set!) so I was thrilled to find that the fabric also came in a navy colorway. I added it to my bag right away, and here’s where we’ve ended up!

For this set, I went with our tried and true matching garments – a Pony Tank for me, and Big Butt Pants for the little one. I’m still very much in a separates phase of life, as I am still nursing and need easy access to feed or pump on a regular basis. The Pony Tank has been a great option for me all summer; it is flowy and comfortable, offers easy pull-up nursing access, and the V-Neck line makes me feel cute and like myself!

This pants pattern is a favorite of mine for little one, and a go-to when I’m making baby things for friends of ours. It is a quick and easy sew, and they are SO cute and comfy on big old diaper bums. Though we didn’t do any color-blocking or pattern mixing here, the waistband and leg cuffs offer lots of options for this! I’m currently planning some for a friend with cute puppies on the legs and fun stripes on the band and cuffs.

That’s all I’ve got for you today – keep an eye out for more fun sews (and maybe a giveaway??) coming throughout the rest of the month!!
