Crowded Faces Mandy Boat Tee

March 18, 2020

One of my favorite makes of 2019 went live on the Minerva Crafts blog this morning! I’ve been truly in love with this tee since making it, and wouldn’t mind one bit if I just had a closet full of these.

I’m pretty sure that by now, we’ve all fallen a little bit in love with this gorgeous Lady McElroy design which has been floating around on multiple substrates. I think the first one I saw was the cotton lawn, which is lovely but I had a hard time thinking up what I might make with it that would truly fill a need! A Kalle Shirt came to mind, but I recognized that this wouldn’t fill any holes in my wardrobe, so I decided to keep thinking about it. But when I realized that it had been released in this beautiful crepe jersey, I finally knew what to sew. The design of the fabric is busy, and I felt that it called for a simple silhouette that would really serve to show it off. The Mandy Boat Tee was the absolute perfect pattern.

This outfit has truly become my summer uniform. I reach for it everyday and feel so sad when it is in the wash! I love the way this Mandy Boat Tee looks with a bit of a front tuck. Despite the fact that I normally gravitate towards lots of bright colors, I think that the simplicity of this tee really lends so well to the monochromatic color palette – black shorts or black jeans are my favorite pairing, depending on the weather.

I’m absolutely in love with the Mandy Boat Tee pattern – and can you believe that it is a FREE pattern, in the .pdf format? If you haven’t already tried this pattern (I may well be the last sewist in existence to finally get on board with this one!) I wholeheartedly recommend you cancel the rest of your plans for the day and just go get on it! I think that in a drapey knit, such as this one, you really end up with something so comfortable and versatile that you won’t be able to stop at just one!!! Plus, it is a quick pattern to sew up, so realistically, you could fill your closet in the course of a weekend.
